Lots of fun stuff recently. We took Ana to Mission Bay to fly her new kite. Thanks to Bena-Gail and Bobby (Nana and Grand dad) for the kite. She didn't love it at first, but it grew on her. The highlight of the trip was when she let the handle go and Sara chased the kite across the park. We went to Wiener Nationals to see the dogs race. We had a really fun time looking at the dogs and spinning around. Then we brought home Norman! He's a English cream and black brindle, long haired, miniature Dachshund. Everyone seems to like him except the cats, but Archie is already warming up to him.

6 year anniversary weekend

Tom and I just celebrated our six year wedding anniversary this past weekend.  My mom came out to stay with Ana while Tom and I got away.  We went up to LA to Knott’s Berry Farm, went to Hollywood to a Jimmy Kimmel show, then took a boat to Catalina Island for a night.  We had such a great time doing all the activities we packed into three days.

Meanwhile back in San Diego, my mom and my brother Matt were visiting, entertaining Ana.  I believe everyone had a great time, including a day at the beach where Matt got a taste of keeping up with Ana in the water.  Ana loves to go and go and go.

Happy 4th of July!

This year for the 4th David, Denise, Marissa, Isaiah, Elijah were visiting so we had them and some of our friends over for some food.  We then walked down the hill from where we live to a great spot to see all the fireworks that were all over San Diego.  The kids had a great time and Ana was a trooper staying up late.

June trip to New Mexico

At the end of June we went to New Mexico to celebrate Ana’s 2nd birthday and our nephew Mateo’s baptism.  Ana had a lot of quality time with both families while Tom and I got to get away to enjoy the heat of ABQ.  While hanging out with Granddad and Nana she got to sit on a horse named Ginger.  We ended up having her birthday party at Peter Piper Pizza.  It was a little crazy but with all the people that showed it was a great place.  Ana had a great time and thank you to everyone who shared in Ana’s 2nd birthday!

Ana’s 1st camping trip

We went camping this past weekend for one night to celebrate Father’s Day early to beat the crowds.  It was also Ana’s first camping trip.  She did well overall and everyone had a good time.  Ana had her first smore and loved it.  It was a little rough sleeping all together in the tent.

Ana’s tea party

Ana received a tea set from our friends Jason and Taryn before her birthday.  She loves it as you can see.  Every time she plays with it she says “Ha Birday”.  Also she has come to realize that cake means birthday too so she says that when she sees cake.  Here she is playing with her tea set.

May 27, 2011

It has been a while since we posted some pictures, so I thought I'd add a few I had taken with my cell phone. We took Ana to the Sicilian festival in Little Italy to see Giada DiLaurentiis, but it was a mad house so we didn't stick around too long. It was a good time, though, and we all shared a tiramisu. One day when Sara was home with Ana they picked me up from lab and we had some lunch at a local burger and dog place. We gave Ana a pen and the receipt and she was happy to color all over the paper and her hands. On Mother's day we took Sara to lunch at a Thai place near UCSD and had some sort of frutti di mare dish with basil. Sara ate a bit of it but mostly stuck to her Panang curry. We were both surprised that Ana liked it as well. Sara and I saw Carmen at the opera. It was a really nice production and the soprano that sang the title role was perfect. It was crazy long though, at almost four hours, and by the end I just wanted her to get murdered (it's in the plot) so we could go home. We paid for the tickets at full patron price now that I'm not a student, so we sat way at the top of the balcony among all manner of riff raff. Alright I'm making with the pics already. Enjoy.

Happy Easter 2011

Ana has taken part of three egg hunts.  We did a practice egg hunt last weekend at the park near our house and then this weekend we went to another large egg hunt.  This one she got more eggs.  Then Easter morning we dyed eggs and then later did another egg hunt on our front lawn.  We had a great Easter ham dinner with our friends Jason and Taryn.

Last couple of weeks

We’ve been busy around here the last couple of weeks. I went to Washington, D.C. for a week to lead students on Alternative Spring Break to work with Habitat for Humanity. I installed base boards in a refurbished duplex, got to use all the fun power tools. It was a great trip, got to meet up with my cousin Kyle who set us up with a Capital Building tour. During that week, Tom was busy with Ana, he hung in there alright. After that the following weekend my mom came out to stay with Ana while Tom and I had a weekend away up in San Francisco. It was a great time. Here are some pics from all the stuff that’s been happening.
